They seem unending work and chores my life’s story. Somewhere between 8am when I started by cutting the grass before it rained and 6pm when everyone was due to show up for the party, I lost all desire to host one. I don’t mind cutting the grass, sweeping the driveway and stairs, doing the laundry, vacuuming, mopping the kitchen and bathrooms, taking the boys to the barbershop, grocery shopping, finding the gift for grandma, cooking the meal, baking the cake because she didn’t want one from a store, or even making sure all the clothes were put away (my most hated chore) before everyone arrived. But doing all of those things in one day really sucks…
And to add insult to injury my brother was in a foul mood. Him and my SIL are always fighting and they are one of those in poor taste couples that like to bring their angst to family gatherings. My SIL has to tell you every single detail of what was said and what my brother did and what a useless waste of space he is. And the whole time my mom and I are looking on in horror. It’s like she doesn’t understand the code of my family. KEEP YOUR DRAMA TO YOURSELF! But anyway back to my brother he was cranky and decided to take me down with him by asking the one thing that really should never be brought up…”hey is J’s car still in the garage? man it’s been there for like 5 years now hasn’t it?” The BASTARD. He just had to kick the garage drama back up again. It didn’t help that I cut the grass and had grass all over my car which was then completed by pouring rain. None of this would matter if I weren’t driving a car less than 3 years old for the 1st time in my life with a 2 car garage I currently can’t use because it is filled to the brim with my mom’s stuff and my other brother’s car. Sigh. I really am a push over aren’t I? Running around trying to make sure I give myself enough time to bake a cake because my grandma knew if she said she didn’t want one from a store I would bake her one.
Oh yeah where was I the chores. I am admittedly a little more concerned with things being neat and clean and in order than the average Joe. Especially an average Joe with my schedule. But I can’t stand things out of order and messy in my house, I need things to be neat to keep from going crazy. Everyone knows this about me and my SIL I suspect quietly despises me for it. So at every opportunity she finds away to make some kind of mess when she is over that will put me over the deep end for the entire event. Tonight? My nephew came in with red mud all over his shoes…The 5 year old nephew climbing in and out of my sofa, up and down the hall, and in and out of every room. I think I will be up until the wee hours scrubbing up all the mud.
But the party was great, my grandma teared up and seemed to have a really good time.

You know what Cat?
Screw all the rest of it, the last sentence is all that mattered. Glad she had a good birthday.
And btw, I’d throw J’s car out on the street and park your car in your garage…
